XAMPP control panel error on Ubuntu
When trying to lauch the xamp control panel today, I got the following error:
File "xampp-control-panel.py", line 21, in
import gtk
File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/gtk-2.0/gtk/__init__.py", line 48, in <module>
from gtk import _gtk
ImportError: /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2: undefined symbol: FT_GlyphSlot_Embolden
It took me a few searches to locate the "solution". A crappy solution, that is true. But hey, it works.

Instead of launching the panel by calling sudo /opt/lampp panel , just call the add-on directly:
sudo /opt/lampp/share/xampp-control-panel/xampp-control-panel

Hi,
I found this post very interesting simply because I was looking for a way to start up the XAMPP control panel like you can in Windows. I just switched from Windows to Ubuntu and I have this question:
is it possible to create a launcher for this (preferably not in Terminal)?
Thanks

Hi Brecht,
Sure it's possible. Keep in mind that xampp-control-panel requires root permission to launch, so you'll need to use gksudo. Here's a quick how-to:
Just right-click on the panel, select 'Add to panel', then choose 'Custom Application Launcher' and hit 'Add'. As type, just leave the default 'Application'. Choose an appropriate name and as for the command, use '
gksudo "/opt/lampp/share/xampp-control-panel/xampp-control-panel"'. (without the single quotes).Good luck!
