Autostart OpenOffice powerpoint presentation (windows)

We installed openoffice on our mothers' machine. Everything works more or less as the MS Office suite. But it bothers her that she always has to manually start the powerpoint presentations she receives from her friends. Sadly OpenOffice still doesn't have a setting to enable autostart for all powerpoint presentations. But google came to the rescue once more.
To auto-start a powerpoint presentation one needs to add a "-show" parameter when launching a pps file.
To do this for all pps files: alter the "open" command for file-type .pps (Explorer: extras->folder options->file types) from
"\simpress.exe" -o "%1" to "\simpress.exe" -o -show "%1"

In Windows Vista and Windows 7 this option has been removed. So there you'll need to tweak a registry setting. In my case (a 64-bit Windows 7) it's
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\OpenOffice.org.Pps\shell\open\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\OpenOffice.org 3\\program\\simpress.exe\" -o -show \"%1\""

Obviously you can do this for other types that impress supports as well (eg .odp as in the original forum post)

Ubuntu users seem to have the opposite problem: pps files autostart but when you don't want that behaviour, look here:

(basically rename the file from pps to ppt or launch the file with the -n parameter

The command ooimpress has the -n option:
# ooimpress -n filename
which is intended to create/edit a new file, using filename as a template.
To all intents and purposes, it is the same of opening filename in edition mode.
